To engage with the space of the St. Anthony Crypt, Elvino Motti chose to exhibit eight methacrylate sculptures. They blend into the air thanks to the magic of their transparency and the luminosity of the blue color or the purity of light jets that electrify the material. These works highlight the Romanesque architecture of the building, giving it a theatricality inspired not by its size, after all quite small, but by the harmony of proportions and the unreal atmosphere that spreads throughout.
In the Crypt, the sculptures vibrate with a spiritual force that magnetizes and transports the soul, intensifying the sense of peace and mystery that emanates from the place. The St. Anthony Crypt is a mysterious world, hidden in the shadow of two significant structures from the Early Middle Ages: the nearby Church of Santa Maria del Tiglio and the Church of San Vincenzo, which protects it beneath the presbytery area.

The Crypt—possibly originally a pagan worship site—is located at a lower level and can be reached via an external staircase, allowing one to discover this secret and unchanging space, whose origins are believed to date back to the 5th century. The fusion of contemporary sculptures with the stone of the ribbed vaults, monolithic columns, and the ancient floor creates a sense of wonder and amazement that is immediately felt upon entering the sanctuary. The dazzling spectacle overwhelms the visitor in a captivating world, as the sculptures glorify the architecture with the light they project, while the Crypt acts as a frame for these translucent and luminous objects, revealing even more their vibrations and the immateriality of their transparency.

Elvino Motti has been able to shape methacrylate, which could be mistaken for glass, into rounded forms resembling globes, whose depths are animated by fractures, craters, explosions and the light that pierces the material, animating the chaos of imaginary movements. The polished execution allows for a varied and constantly changing interpretation of the work, so much so that one could even say that it is never the same. Thanks to the plasticity of methacrylate, its transparency, and its light-transmitting properties, the artist creates perfect spheres or delicate arrows, some crossed by white luminous trajectories, others wrapped in blue. The metamorphosis of a winged angel emphasizes the choir of the crypt with its bluish luminescence and this overall effect creates a vibrating harmony that invites contemplation.
