Anselm And Vincent In Dialogue - London: Kiefer and van Gogh at the Royal Academy

September 12, 2025

The Royal Academy of Arts, in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, has opened an exhibition dedicated to two artists who profoundly marked their times: Anselm Kiefer and Vincent van Gogh. In the 1960s, the German master retraced the steps of the post-impressionist pioneer in what he described as an initiatory journey. Numerous themes and stylistic elements link the two masters in a dialogue across time: nature, literature, wheat fields and the symbolic use of the color yellow. The exhibition unfolds across three large rooms, showcasing monumental and previously unseen canvases by Kiefer, rich with references to van Gogh’s work  such as the recurring motif of crows, interspersed with smaller-format pieces by the Dutch master, including drawings, sketches, and oil paintings.

Curated by Julien Domercq and Natasha Fyffe.

Until October 26.
