The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum presents a video art exhibition by John Akomfrah, “Listening All Night to Rain”. The British artist of Ghanaian origin began his career in the 1980s as a founder of the Black Audio Film Collective (BAFC). He went on to gain international recognition through audiovisual installations in major European galleries, and in 2019 he represented Ghana at the Venice Biennale. The work featured in this exhibition, title taken from an 11th-century Chinese poem, continues Akomfrah’s exploration of themes such as postcolonialism, ecology and the aesthetics of speed. Graceful figures intertwine with geopolitical narratives. The artwork thus becomes a manifesto, an act of activism.
