Palazzo Reale is hosting the first solo exhibition in Italy dedicated to Leonora Carrington. A multifaceted artist who escaped the confines of a strict Catholic upbringing, too narrow for her spirit, she went on to create a wild and magical universe. Carrington had the unique ability to connect her inner and outer worlds, harmonizing them into a singular vision where reality takes the shape of a subversive and grotesque fairy tale. After encountering Renaissance art in Florence and surrealism in Paris, she blended these influences with her own post-Victorian and Celtic roots. The exhibition features paintings, photographs, writings and previously unseen documents that offer insight into her approach to art, ecology, feminism and spirituality. As she said: “painting is like making strawberry jam.” Curated by Tere Arcq and Carlos Martín. On view until January 11, 2026.
