The Pleasures of Life - Florence: Helen Chadwick at Museo Novecento

Museo Novecento marks the opening of the first-ever retrospective of Helen Chadwick (1953–1996) to be held in Italy. The artist was one of the most radical and controversial figures in British art during the second half of the 20th century.

A staunch feminist, Chadwick developed an experimental and unconventional body of work. Her research was deeply intertwined with an explicit reflection on the body, desire, and physical pleasure, which inspired the exhibition title, “Life Pleasures.”

The display features sculptures, installations, and photographs spanning her entire career, characterized by the use of non-conformist materials such as meat, flowers, bodily fluids, and chocolate—materials as unusual as they are grotesque.

Curated by Sergio Risaliti, Stefania Rispoli, and Laura Smith. Until March 1st.
