Titled It’s break time the exhibition features works by Jonathan Griffith and Valeria Vaccaro
“Beauty is a form of genius. Indeed, it is higher than genius, as it needs no explanation”, declared Oscar Wilde. If the writer, who some say could hold a conversation with five people at once, admitted to being breathless in the face of aesthetic contemplation, then surely we, too, can allow our emotions to flow freely before beauty and leave rational patterns behind. Even more so when artistic virtuosity enhances this disorienting effect, especially when it is fueled by creative poles such as the collaboration between Galleria Comelli and Bagno Alpemare, renewed again this year.
Comelli Art Gallery and Bagno Alpemare in Forte dei Marmi, owned by Bocelli family, renew the collaboration this year again
The Bocelli family, long at the helm of this Versilian property and a jewel of Forte dei Marmi hospitality, makes room for a new installation curated by gallerist Daniele Comelli, in collaboration with the architect Alberto Bartali. It’s break time, the title, evokes the lightness and relief every student has experienced during recess, a much-needed pause for attention spans under the weight of uninspiring lessons. This moment of recharging and socializing is what summer, often synonymous with vacation, continues to offer to a clientele seeking relaxation, such as that of a beach club.
The title of the exposition evokes the lightness and the relief of the time of recess
The exhibition presents a dual signature: Jonathan Griffith and Valeria Vaccaro. Their heterogeneous and surprising composition features one sculpture in PVC and another in marble, both capable of confusing the senses and reinterpreting materials with contrasting characteristics, such as paper and wood. The paper airplanes, a classic symbol of school-time distraction and innocent escape from monotony, are modeled by the sculptor and painter originally from Grosseto, who also works professionally in aerodynamic design for both cars and boats. Nearby, the pencils by the Turin-based artist challenge our trained perception of soft graphite, as they are masterfully rendered in noble stone instead. The delicate dynamic of opposites unites the two artists in this show, curated by Comelli, who recently opened a new exhibition space in Genoa after years of pioneering research backed by his family’s collecting tradition and a modern vision for online art sales.
