There is a precise moment in the act of painting when the author chooses to take a step back to let the matter express itself independently. Franco Dallegri, with the series Recondite Realtà, seems to have identified this liminal boundary, undergoing an evolution that surpasses the premises of his previous production. If his research previously focused on the pigment’s ability to evoke other dimensions, today the investigation shifts toward the ontology of the pictorial space. The canvas has ceased to be an inert support to transform into a physical plane of occurrence.
It is here that his image-events are generated: autonomous manifestations of a chromatic magma that, activated without the mediation of the brush, claims the right to «write the dawn of its own life». Through the technique of tilting - the skillful inclination of the support - the artist sheds the role of demiurge to assume that of an experimental director. He orchestrates densities and pigments, but lets gravity and chemical reactions determine the final morphology. The result is a de-personalized painting, where color takes on an autonomous physicality, emancipating itself from any mimetic temptation. In these works, the hierarchy of the gaze disappears.
The renunciation of perspective and pre-established focal points invites a “wandering vision,” to use an expression by Paul Klee. The eye is not attracted to a center, but is free to move among geodes, dynamic waves, and organic cells that seem to unlock the fourth dimension. Particularly fascinating are the chromatic “clouds”: suspended in a space devoid of anchors, they generate a three-dimensionality that restores a sense of almost metaphysical infinity. Dallegri acts as a catalyst, but the final interpretation is returned to the viewer. Rather than a window onto the world, this is the “visual chronicle” of matter becoming an event, revealing profound truths that vibrate beyond the perceptible surface. A mature language, capable of combining a new generation of lyrical abstraction with a formal solidity that guarantees a secure perspective of value over time.
