The Gala's joys - The jewels and objects of G. Rotelli

Her creations become symbols ranging from roots to stars

Shaping an emotion. Shaping the material. Observing the lightness of nature. In the poetics of Gala Rotelli, designer of jewelry and decorative objects, fragility and imperfection become an expression of a charm to be shown. In her handicraft works, mostly made of metal and glass, there remains an authenticity that transcends small differences. Every creation conveys a message through a symbol: from the roots, which represent history and deep ties, to stars that tell dreams and illusions. An emblematic language that she delves into from an early age, revealing her natural creativity. Raised in Parma in a family of artists and architects, she soon showed a passion for drawing, encouraged by her father, Marco Nereo Rotelli, refined author of the contemporary scene. At the age of 13, the meeting with Fernanda Pivano will mark the beginning of a deep interest in the world of jewelry.

The eccentric rings, worn by the writer, become a true source of inspiration for Gala: extravagant and extraordinary compositions, designed by Ettore Sottsass and Paco Rabanne, show themselves as works far from the classical archetypes. Driven by curiosity and growing passion, she deepens her research and investigates the narrative that is hidden in the production of small artifacts, capable of telling a real story. The studies take her to Florence where she graduated in architecture, but the overly technical approach seems far from her real inclination. Se begins a collaboration with a design agency for which she works between Milan and New York, but the too pragmatic dynamics of marketing are once again not very similar to her style.

She attended a modern art course in London and obtained a master’s degree in jewelry design in Milan, under the aura of Professor Alba Cappellieri. She dedicated herself, therefore, to the realization of objects in bronze and silver: the sketches, long remained in the drawer, take shape in the hands of skilled craftsmen. After the birth of her brand in 2015, she undertook several collaborations with other production companies, creating unique pieces: from luminous glasses designed for Acqua di Parma to the collection of centerpieces inspired by the Amalfi Coast for Palazzo Avino.

She challenges her skills and embarks on a new project that sees her committed, for the Kennedy Foundation, in creating a storytelling linked to the world of flowers, thought as a symbol of rebirth and resilience. In her Milan atelier you can see today, pieces inspired by nature and the celestial world, which speak of a beauty never ostentatious: delicacy turns into wonder and leaves room for introspective reflection. An inner light that must be constantly fed with determination, to grow in all areas of life. A long journey from the roots to the stars that, like Gala, each of us is called to travel.
