Alberto And The Others - Sacile: Optical-Kinetic Art at Palazzo Ragazzoni

The core of the exhibition focuses on Biasi’s artistic evolution, featuring works from various phases of his career

On the road leading to the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, Sacile emerges as an unexpected and unique stop, blending movement, culture, and local heritage. At Palazzo Ragazzoni, a landmark of the city, an exhibition curated by Stefano Cecchetto and Giovanni Granzotto takes shape. It approaches the theme of dynamism not as a rigid historical category, but as a sensory and visual experience designed to engage and captivate the public.

The centerpiece is Alberto Biasi, a leading figure in international Optical-Kinetic art. His work is presented across various research phases: from Trame to Optical-Kinetic Reliefs, and from Polyptychs to Assemblages, including environments and sculptures. Before each piece, the viewer is invited to move, shift their perspective, and participate in a perceptual process that renders the artwork unstable and alive. Emblematic of this is Eco o non opera (1974), an environmental installation where a photosensitive wall steals the viewer’s shadow.

The showcase also features works by Josef Albers, Julio Le Parc, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Hugo Demarco and Francisco Sobrino

Surrounding Biasi, the exhibition builds a broad narrative across the three floors of the 16th-century palace. It juxtaposes historical masters like Josef Albers, Victor Vasarely, and Yvaral with key figures from the GRAV group (Le Parc, Garcia Rossi, Demarco, and Sobrino). The journey continues through a constellation of artists linked to programmed art and perceptual research: from the theoretical inquiries of Massironi to the environmental experiments of Colombo and Boriani, the luminous surfaces of Alviani, and the chromatic studies of Tornquist.

The luminous geometries of Franco Costalonga and Nadia Costantini, the surface vibrations of Edoer Agostini and Claudio Rotta Loria, and the Optical experiences of Sandi Renko dialogue with more lyrical contemporary outcomes, such as the works of Mara Fabbro and the plexiglass sculptures of Alberto Pasqual.

As noted in the catalog, the exhibition serves as a true catalyst for dynamic suggestion, founded on the relationship between the artwork and the observer. Dynamism here is a measure of balance and the relationship between body, space, and time - much like the athletic experience. The exhibition is supported by Gruppo Euromobil as main sponsor, with the contribution of Alpha Micron.
